Dance

The Dance Program features Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Dance Electives

Our dance program is perfect for the girl who wants to expand her skills in a safe and supportive environment, surrounded by other girls who love dance just as much as her! Dancers are able to sign up for 3 or 4 periods of dance a day. Regardless of how long you’ve been dancing or what level you’re at, our program will help you grow as a dancer. We offer instruction for beginners through advanced levels in all of our dance classes. The session ends off with a showcase from our dancers, celebrating all that they’ve accomplished!

DANCE DIRECTOR

  • Ballet

Hundreds of years old, and steeped in tradition, ballet is a great place to start learning dance for beginner dancers. Strength, flexibility, terminology, and technique are all covered in this class. We focus on creating strong dancers that demonstrate poise and confidence.

  • Jazz

Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with current forms of popular dance. Classes include warm up, isolations, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combinations. These classes are for dancers who like precision and rhythm, physical challenges, and personal style and expression. Classes focus on increasing flexibility and strength, rhythms and isolation of body parts, and expressing personal style.

  • Hip Hop

Our hip hop class is a fast-paced and energetic dance style using the latest street/urban dance moves set to top 40/Hip Hop music. Hip hop encompasses a wide range of street styles including breaking, locking and popping. This class specifically focuses on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style.

  • Lyrical

Lyrical dance combines techniques of classical ballet and jazz, as well as some modern elements. Classes include warm up, isolations, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combinations. These classes are for dancers who like physical challenges, and storytelling with lyrically expressive songs. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility and strength, rhythms and isolation of body parts, and expressing personal style.

  • Contemporary

Contemporary blends genres of dance into its own unique style. It includes elements of ballet, jazz, modern, and even hip hop. Often compared to lyrical, contemporary dance is a more abstract version of dance through phrasing and music. Contemporary dance became popular with the launch of the show “So You Think You Can Dance” and tends to be a favorite for teen dancers.

Dance Electives

  • Musical Theatre

Musical Theater combines dancing and acting (and at times singing), with performance on stage. These classes are for dancers who like the spotlight, drama, singing, and telling a story through dance. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility, strength, confidence, and performance.

  • Tap

Tap focuses on rhythms and patterns in footwork through technique, as well as personal style while producing clear sounds. Classes include a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. These classes are for dancers who like rhythm, precision footwork, and creative styling. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.

Dance Facilities

Our dance program features two state-of-the-art studios, including brand new flooring, mirrors and barres. One studio features hardwood flooring, and the other features marley flooring, ensuring there’s an appropriate studio for all types of dance. Our end-of-session showcase happens at our amphitheater, overlooking the rest of camp and Lake Ashmere.
